I have always found beauty in the complexity of the simple. The way the rough texture of the bark on a giant fallen tree in a creek bed is complimented by the smooth glassy nature of the water. How the dark colors stand out in the water and contradict the backdrop of a golden sunset creating a beautiful scene. The calmness that comes with the sounds of the water running by as it washes sediment and mud up submerging the tree underneath it. The magic that happens when overtime, minerals from the water replace the organic matter in the wood essentially turning the wood into a beautiful stone that is the exact replica of the original structure of the wood grain. This is art! I grew up bare foot in the woods observing these phenomena among the tall pine trees of deep East Texas. I didn’t know it then but it’s what made me see the world very uniquely. Now I will always stop to pick up the rock and rub it between my fingers. Feel the bark of the old tree and imagine all the stories it could tell.  Watch the ants tote their treasures along perfectly carved trails as they pass by earthy capped mushrooms that shade them from the sun. And of course, I will always close my eyes while I soak in that last ray of sunshine just a second longer as the warmth fills my soul. There is beauty in everything including you and I would be honored to capture it.
